Gluten sensitivity and schizophrenia? Take a look at these excellent references:Brain_radiating

Just had a very interesting missive from a reader following up on my SPECT reference in the last post on celiac, gluten sensitivity and schizophrenia. He suggested two helpful sites for further information and conversation on these matters.

  1. Cara, at her interesting gluten free [gf] site, has documented more than 17 articles on schizophrenia and gluten sensitivity from Pub Med and a variety of good "traditional" resources in the peer reviewed literature. Cara writes well and pulls together considerable interesting information regarding the biology of what appears to be schizophrenia, but can represent the *brain effects* downstream of enteric, intestinal food allergies.
  2. The reader's second suggestion can be helpful for those looking for even more resources and further conversations in a forum format regarding a number of celiac, gluten sensitivity brain issues over at: The Brain Talk Communities Gluten Sensitivity/Celiac Disease forum.

I have personally seen gluten sensitivity in my office associated with schizophrenia, bipolar, moods and all the more common chronic psychiatric problems that walk in the door every day.

Please do pass along this link to your colleagues and friends by forwarding it over as email [link below] or click permalink below for the URL to forward the page. Information like this can turn the tide on many chronic refractory presentations. And notice in Cara's history how she used Enterolab.com, our favorite lab for these conditions.

Much more to investigate over at these sites, and both with be added to our Useful Resources on the right sidebar of CorePsychBlog and CorePsychPodcast.

Thanks for the heads up, Martial!
