CorePsych Mission: What we do

Bipolar SSRIs and the Brain

ADD and Depression: A dangerous mix
December 28, 2006

Someone offline asked the other day, “Just what do you do?” So a brief note to explain a bit more:

  1. Psych diagnosis and psych med review, medical review and consultation, virtually [by phone – and am working on use of the web cam] or there in the Virginia Beach office. We meet often by phone, to diminish the travels and work-loss costs, discuss findings through extensive questionnaires and an interview process.
  2. Evidenced based psychiatry: I continue as Chief Psychiatrist at Amen Clinic DC. With the remarkable team in DC we used SPECT brain imaging for advanced diagnostic work with Daniel Amen, world thought leader in the psych application  of SPECT imaging.
  3. Comprehensive Metabolic Review: With Camille Gallinger CN, a great nutritionist in Seattle [a bio in the PDF brochure below] and an abiding interest in Core issues, meaning all the cellular and molecular problems [from nutrition to other aspects of chronic metabolic issues] that can contribute to psych symptoms, we look at laboratory evidence to further review the complexity of the presentation. See the PDF file below, an example of some of the lab testing we use as indicated:     Download sample_report_4300_v_01.pdf

  1. For the scan process we continue to use the SPECT gamma
cameras and team in DC, mark the scans for easy review, send them out
to you, and then carefully review the results of the scans with you,
including the pharmacologic and nutritional implications. Much is spelled out on the current PDF here with connection phone numbers if you are interested: Download corepsych_brochure061127.pdf

On a final note, have presented nationally for years, and am available
for virtual/personal presentations,  PowerPoint at your school,
as long as you have a computer and access to a speaker phone [virtually at less cost]. Subjects from Alzheimer's to ADD,
psychpharm, all the categories in this post have
presentations tied to them. Soon will have WebEx so I can
change the slides on your machine/LCD from my office.

Hope this helps!

After a spider bite on the upper lip, not brown recluse, not black widow, and not, thank you, the hobo spider, my big Homer Simpson upper lip is back in order. Lip intact, but could not drink coffee. Comic relief for the Holidays! Friends thought I had a tour in the Bowery…

Back on track right after Christmas. Best to you and yours,

Chuck

  1. Kim,
Have looked at it, have not seen the studies themselves, and it does look very interesting – but I have no direct experience to report.

I do have experience, for example, with electrical stimulation through implanted vagal nerve stimulation [VNS] with refractory depression with rather profound positive results.

Has anyone heard of alpha stim treatment? If so do you know if it really works?
