Brief Update On CHADD – And An ADHD Med Article

Call it Fall in Virginia, one of our favorite times out here, – but change is in the air, big time.

Yes, I've been working with folks who suffer with ADHD for years, but just didn't catch on, until lately, to CHADD's deep relevance – the national organization for Children and Adults with AD/HD.  – Hey, I'm a slow learner, but more about that in a minute.

As you may know from some ADHD comments and postings at CorePsych Blog we have formed an ADHD, pre/CHADD advisory board in the Tidewater, Hampton Roads area of VA,   [website here:  ADHDinHR ] – and are well underway with reconnecting with our local colleagues, friends, and those managing ADHD to make that CHADD support group happen right here at the famous Virginia entrance to the Chesapeake Bay.

Pop over to that ↑ link and make sure you drop us your name and email so we can continue to keep those connections going! Great first meeting, stay posted thru that link and through the email list-serve for the next event.

Thanks Advisory Team

A special Big Thanks to Hampton Roads CHADD veterans: articulate kick-off host Dr Jeff Katz [who is on the CHADD National Board] and his effervescent wife Mindy Katz, the big-hearted Burt Segal LCSW, the quick-witted Dr Wayne Smith, the engaging Cheryl Poe, the scholarly Dr Mary Burch, the academically-connected Dr Brenda Reid, the straight-shooting LaEunice Brown, and the sparkling Diane Herbert, and our peripatetic facilitator Jason Bosher – all of whom took significant time out of their schedules to lay the foundations for next CHADD steps here in Hampton Roads. Strong crew! Deep commitment!

Parker Article In Attention Magazine – October

What's that about me, the slow learner? I just didn't get that CHADD welcomed professionals like me. 🙄  No, really… Remember that I worked in Substance Abuse for decades, wrote that book on Deep Recovery – all the way back in '92, – and in attempting-to-hang with that recovering community I inadvertently caught an AA, NA , ACOA, anonymous, almost anti-professional,  state of mind… no professionals encouraged in support groups[!] You get the picture – simple respect, they wanted no education from medical outsiders. [And now, after years of thinking the new science over, they know we can work together.]

Ah well, I'm here at the CHADD digs now, and have much welcomed the light hearts, the good humor, and the ADHD passion at every meeting with our advisory crew over here in VA.

Following the great relationship I developed over the years with my West Coast CHADD member, speaker and writing buddy Gina Pera, I belatedly realized I was far out of a very big ADHD loop, – just like some of you out there. After an introduction to Susan Buningh, the Executive Editor of Attention Magazine I put on my writing hat and inquired about possibly submitting an article. I'm pleased to report that Susan and her team recently accepted and published a piece I submitted on the many unanswered questions about ADHD meds, – and it's just now hot off the presses at the October Attention Magazine!

This next link>[ ADHD Medication Essentials ], will take you to that article, the Attention Magazine details, and, hopefully, to a more involved relationship with CHADD. See what you think about their publication and do cruise around CHADD's voluminous website. – And just remember my own belated lesson – start now: it's useful to get involved with CHADD on many levels – on any level that works for you and your family. The attendees there at our opening meeting in Hampton Roads clearly revealed what we see everyday here at CorePsych Blog – the ADHD misunderstandings are profound and pervasive. Recovery is about working together, moving forward to collectively resolve those abundant uncertainties.
